Happy New Year! I hope you have the best year ever! 2025 seemed to have left some of us feeling like the last Jake Paul fight. In prep for the new year, even though resolutions have gone out the window, it’s still a great time to establish realistic goals and plans. For exercise, if you’re not able to join a gym, it’s good to at least make small goals such as taking a 30 min walk twice a week, doing 10 push-ups before bed, or something as simple as stretching for 10 minutes before you start your day. If you happen to do more, great! This helps to promote lifestyle implementations that become routine and fun as opposed to a temporary resolution that you dread.
Now let’s talk diet. The term diet refers to the meals that you consume. There are different types of specialty diets that may help with losing weight, eating healthier, or avoiding certain types of foods. As we discuss realistic goals, it’s a great time to evaluate your everyday diet in how much money you want to spend on food per week, establishing a weekly or monthly menu so that you can balance your caloric intake, how often you eat fast food, and
reduce the stress of having to come up with ideas on what to cook daily.
As a nurse, you know I have to do my due diligence in stressing the importance of scheduling your annual preventative care visits with your primary care physician as well as any additional screenings such as cervical exams, prostate exams, colonoscopy, etc. I have already done mine for the year, and to “knock it out”, since I already knew I would need to have standard labs ordered, I preemptively scheduled my lab appointment to immediately follow my PCP visit. With this I had no wait time and was able to walk right in, get my blood drawn, and have results by the next day. The great part of my PCP visit was that it was virtual. I took my own blood pressure at home and self-reported the reading to the provider and discussed any concerns I had. Alongside of your PCP visit, remember to schedule your dental and eye exam appointments as well. As you may have experienced, many offices get booked up pretty quickly especially those in high demand so it’s good to get it on the books now to plan ahead.
In my upcoming newsletters, I will provide more tips on things like health, wellness, recipes, fun activity ideas, as well as new items that drop in the online Yo! Mama’s World Shop. Next week’s shop feature: Valentine’s Day items!
Keep shining,
Yo! Mama Mesh
