Summer Program Day 5: Soccer

As we wrap up Sports week, today will be full of activities around soccer! Unfortunately, the way my shins are setup, I wasn't big on kicking hard balls that would hit them, however it's a pretty fun sport worldwide. According to Wikipedia, "it is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries", making it the most popular sport in the world.

Today's activities will be pretty light as we catch up on a couple movies and reading but here are a few things that will occupy our day and can for you as well:

Read 1 book (here are a few recommended selections, varying age/reading levels):

The Berenstain Bears Get Their Kicks by Stan & Jan Berenstain (1998)

Goodnight Soccer by Michael Dahl (2018)

Soccer School Season 3: Where Soccer Explains (Tackles) the World by Alex Bellos & Ben Lyttleton (2019)

Snack: Yo! Mama's "I Want S'more" Soccer mix - Combine Golden Grahams, marshmallows, chocolate chips (or other chocolate treat), and popcorn into a ziplock bag. Hey, it's Friday! Live a little lol.

Activities: There are some cool ideas on Pinterest that you can find when searching "Kids Soccer ideas" or "Kids Soccer crafts". Here is one of the links I found https://www.diythought.com/5-fun-football-soccer-kids-printables/

http://www.printactivities.com/Theme-Printables/Soccer-Printables.html

We will be playing Straw Soccer where we create a paper playing field and cotton ball or pom pom for the soccer ball. Each player will use the straw to blow the "soccer ball" into the direction of the goal to score.

Movie of the day:

Underdogs (rated PG)

The Big Green (rated PG)

Switching Goals (rated G)

The Ladybugs (rated PG-13 for the teens)

Here are some of the moments captured from day 4 on hockey. (Go Blues!)
